INTRODUCING THE

Advanced Nursing Foot Care INTENSIVE

 

An intensive course (4 or 5 days) where you will learn the principles, knowledge and skills that will ensure immediate success as a Foot Care Nurse.

This comprehensive course complies with National Competencies as set by the 

Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses (CAFCN)

The Advanced Nursing Foot Care Intensive with Whole Health Care is unique...

 

The course is 1:1 in an in-person setting. Instruction is led by Lead Educator, Colleen Thom, RN,FCN of 13 years, owner of Whole Health Care. Students gain knowledge through daily theory, followed by practical application.  Guided clinical activities are designed to meet course outcomes and integrate knowledge using evidence-based practice.

 

The pre-study portion is completed online. 

You'll gain access to these modules once registration and payment are received and course dates are confirmed with Whole Health Care. 

 

This course is student-centred, engaging, and challenging.  Foot Care Nurses, experienced in daily practice, support you in your clinical component with first-hand knowledge and practical judgment.

After successfully completing the Advanced Nursing Foot Care course you’ll…

  • Gain the confidence to provide care according to best practice as the course follows the standards as set by the Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses

  • Learn the principles, knowledge, and skills to provide safe foot care

  • Identify nail and skin disorders, structural deformities, and the risk factors impacting mobility

  • Understand the complexities of the high-risk foot, including Diabetes Mellitus 

  • Gain understanding of Instrument Management and Sterilization Standards within British Columbia and Canada

  • Learn advanced techniques in foot care with daily podiatric drill experience

Advanced Nursing Foot Care Intensive

This 4-day course is comprised of theory and clinical practice. A certificate of completion is provided upon successful completion of the program.

COURSE PREREQUISITES:

This course is designed for the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, and Nurse Practitioner. 

You will be required to provide a copy of your current nursing license during the registration process.​

 

​COURSE FORMAT:

The pre-study portion is completed through our online learning platform.

The in-person portion is a 4-day intensive program. Instruction takes place Monday to Friday from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm each day.

COURSE ACTIVITIES:

The course is  provided in a 1-1 setting with instructor-led theory and daily clinical experience, provided by Lead Educator, Colleen Thom. The daily clinical portion involves the practical application of skills with supervised assessment performed on clients in-house.  

All foot care instruments, supplies and podiatric drills used during the clinical portion are provided for the duration of the program.​ A starter kit is only provided for the Onyfix portion of the program.

ASSESSMENT:

Students receive a Certificate of Completion in Advanced Nursing Foot Care.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Scrubs are to be worn daily.  Please wear closed-toe shoes.

How does this course benefit me?

The in-person portion of the course is complete in just 4-5 days. Our training is for those nurses who want to ensure immediate success while completing quickly, allowing you to start a business in foot care or gain employment as a Foot Care Nurse (FCN). The course follows the standards as laid out by the Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses (CAFCN)

 

Does the pre-study need to be completed before the start date of the in-person course?

To ensure your success during the Intensive, we highly recommend completing the pre-study. 

 

Is the clinical portion done off-site?

The pre-study portion of the course is online. The 4-5 day Intensive is at our Wellness Center: Whole Health Care, 257 Seymour Street, Kamloops, BC.

 

Will I be certified with this course?

You will receive a Certificate of Completion once you have completed the course. There currently is no certification for Nursing Foot Care.

 

Is there a bursary or grant I can receive?

Yes! You can apply for a member education bursary through BCNU. 

 

Can I begin a business once I complete the course? 

Yes! Successful completion of the Pre-study, and the 4-5 day Intensive, will allow you to set up your own foot care business.

 

Is a kit provided at the end of the course with supplies and tools?

Because methods to provide foot care are diverse, no kit is available at the end of the course. We provide all supplies and tools throughout the course.

 

Do you offer refunds?

Refunds may be requested up to seven days after enrolment, less a $250 non-refundable deposit. Requests may be sent to admin@whckamloops.ca.

 

Is additional training offered?

Yes! Whole Health Care provides additional training options for Foot Care Nurses.  

Individual mentoring and support, instrument reprocessing, and Onyfix & Podoexpert certification are all available.
